Young men warned to stay away from Quashie

A soft chuckle echoed around the walls of the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, August 9, as two of the three youngsters charged with attempted robbery were warned to have no contact with the virtual complainant.{{more}}

The young men, 19-year-old Darron Shallow of Belmont and Jolarney David, 21, of Hopewell, Mesopotamia, were each granted composite bail to the tune of $15,000, and are expected to return to court on January 11, 2012, along with a 15-year-old youth, to answer four charges, including attempting to commit an offence of robbery and having in their possession an unlicensed firearm.

The cause for the light laughter emerged from the fact that a fourth attempted robber was shot and killed by the would-be victim, businessman Truman ‘Chewee’ Quashie, on Saturday, July 23, 2011, when the four youngsters are alleged to have tried to relieve the patrons and management of Chewee’s Chill and Grill in Villa of personal belongs.

Following the death of the fourth individual, three persons fled the scene.

At last Tuesday’s bail review, prosecutor Inspector Aldolphus Delpesche waived objection to bail for the young men, but requested of Senior Magistrate Sonya Young that travel documents be surrendered and reporting conditions be imposed.

Young instructed that the men turn in their travel documents, and that they both report to the Marriaqua Police station on Monday and Fridays between 6am and 6pm.

A curfew was also imposed on the men, who are to be at home from 7 pm to 7 am daily. Should they fail to do so, their bail would be revoked and they would be re-arrested.

Shallow is being represented by Lawyer Jaundy Martin, while Ronnie Marks represents David and the 15-year-old boy.(JJ)
