Prince – ‘I badly wanted the money’

Sixteen-year-old Kimron Prince said he did what he had to do to get by.{{more}}

Prince, who pleaded guilty to possession of 111 pounds of marijuana, told Chief Magistrate Sonya Young: “Ah man meet me and gimme ah wuk and I badly wanted the money so much,” the young boy stressed.

Prince, who turned 16 the day before he was arrested, was jointly charged with Fitzroy Lett, 30, of Campden Park, who also pleaded guilty to the charge.

The teenager disclosed that he was living alone and that his parents are not around. “My mother living in Ottley Hall and she have other kids. I was looking for a labour work badly, but I just had no choice, I wanted the money badly,” he said.

Police say on February 26, at about 6:20 p.m., members of the Rapid Response Unit and Drug Squad were patrolling the York Mountains in Campden Park when they came across a shed on a marijuana farm.

When the officers approached the shed, they met Prince and Lett with scissors in their hands, cutting what appeared to be cannabis.

When cautioned, Prince told the officers: “Is wuk ah wuking.” Lett on the other hand said: “Is na really my weed. Is ah man ah come give ah strength.”

A further search conducted turned up two transparent bags containing cannabis; tarpaulin and buckets also contained cannabis. Lett at that time said: “Officer, alyo ketch me. Way me could say to that.”

For his illegal act, Magistrate Young sentenced Lett to three years imprisonment.

Magistrate Young said that she wanted to know more about Prince’s background before she passes sentence. Young requested that a Social Inquiry report be furnished to the court so that she could sentence Prince on April 13.

He was remanded in custody.
