Police Constable to stand trial for manslaughter

Police Constable Rohan McDowall has been committed to stand trial in the High Court for manslaughter.{{more}}

At the Preliminary Inquiry into the killing of PC494 Kingsley John, which concluded on Monday, February 14, McDowall, who had been charged with murder, had the charge reduced to manslaughter.

McDowall, who was brought to court for the first time on August 24, 2010, was also charged with the use of a firearm with intent to commit an offence and unlawfully discharging a firearm at Kingsley John.

Those charges still remain.

John, 27, of Dickson, was killed at the Biabou Police Station August 7, 2010, with an M4 assault rifle, shortly after he and other members of his unit had returned from a drug raid.

McDowall is currently on $40,000 bail pending his appearance in the High Court.
