Barbadian national Ronnie Greaves was denied bail, while Ottley Hall residents Damon Mason and Densley Sam were granted bail. The trio appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, December 1, and pleaded not guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm on November 29, 2010, at Ottley Hall.

In objecting to bail, Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche said that Greaves is a non-national and has a return ticket to his country on December 4, 2010.

He further stated that Greaves has no Vincentian connection and would be a flight risk if given bail.

For Mason and Sam, Chief Magistrate Sonya Young ordered that they surrender their travel documents and report to the Central Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6am-6pm.

The matter was adjourned to December 15 for trial and the prosecution is expected to call four witnesses to give testimony.

The trio was also slapped with two charges of cannabis possession. Sam entered a guilty plea and the Greaves and Mason pleaded not guilty to possession of 48 and 93 grams of cannabis. The prosecution withdrew the charges against Mason and Greaves.

Information stated that Rapid Response Unit (RRU) personnel went to the home of Sam at about 3:40am to execute a search warrant.

During the search, a plastic bag containing the 43 grams of cannabis was found in one of the bedrooms. A further search discovered a taped package in a small bucket.

For possession of the 48 grams, Sam was fined $300 to be paid in two days or spend three months in jail. For the 98 grams, he was ordered to pay $500 in one month or four months behind bars. (KW)
