According to an online article on newsmontserrat.com, the men, whose names are yet to be ascertained, were charged jointly on Saturday in the Magistrate’s Court for drug trafficking, possession of cannabis sativa, with intent to supply, and possession of cannabis sativa. They were each separately charged with conspiracy to engage in drug trafficking and conspiracy to import a controlled drug.

The news article quoted Deputy Commissioner Paul Morris as saying that the correct street value for the drugs seized during a joint operation with the HMS Manchester was EC$2.2million. Morris stated that the force is continuing to investigate the case and it was too early to say whether the drugs were meant for the island or if Montserrat was a merely a transhipment point.

The suspects appeared before the court again on Wednesday, June 30, for a bail hearing.
