Auxillary Officer dies

The Serious Officers Court has lost one of its law enforcement officers.{{more}}

Auxillary constable Martin Adams, of Kingstown Park, died on Saturday, May 15, at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital as a result of heart failure.

The glum looks on the faces of some of the other officers at the court on Monday spoke volumes of how much their colleague will be missed.

As a mark of respect for Adams, police officers wore black ribbons on their shirts.

Martin, 49, was described as the man who always wore a smile and never seemed to be troubled.

Adams enrolled with Auxiliary services on February 20, 2006.

Choked with emotion, wife, Evelyn Ashton, spoke of sleepless nights since the death of her husband. “It really rough. I can’t sleep or eat since this thing happened,” Ashton sobbed.

On the tragic day, Ashton said Adams prepared breakfast and went back to bed. “He came and ask me if I already ate and if I wanted him to prepare something for me,” Ashton stated.

Moments later, Ashton said she heard the sound of someone gasping for air. “I went in the room and see he been fighting to breathe and my sons came to try and help him,” she said.

Adams was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Corporal 687 Renrick Cato of the Serious Offences Court recalled the last conversation he had with Adams. “I spoke with Martin just last week Thursday and i told him to buy a Ju-c for me,” Cato reminisced.

Cato described Adams as a jovial person, who was pleasant at all times.

Auxiliary officer Alban Gabriel also expressed grief over Adams’ death. “I feel really sad that he’s gone because its just last week me and he had a good conversation,” Gabriel recounted.

A funeral service for Adams will be held next Tuesday May 25, at the Roman Catholic Church in Kingstown. Burial will be at the Kingstown Cemetery.(KW)
