Con artist receives slap on the wrist

After pleading guilty to three charges of deception and theft, young con artist, Kizzy Chandler, walked away from the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Monday with only a slap on the wrist.{{more}}

Chandler, the 18-year-old trickster who had pleaded guilty to deceiving a 64-year-old retired nurse into giving her US$300, was bonded for two years in the sum of $2,000. In breach of the bond, Chandler will have to pay $2,000 forthwith or spend one year behind bars. She was also ordered to pay compensation of EC $860 in one month or spend six months in jail.

Senior Magistrate Donald Browne further bonded Chandler for six months in the sum of $1000 for stealing a purse belonging to Evelyn Hooper. In breach of the bond, Chandler will go to prison for six months. She was also ordered to pay compensation of $102 in one month or spend six months in jail. Chandler was also bonded for one year in the sum of $2000 for stealing EC$1,370 and £40 from Lafleur Jacobs. Both offences occurred on March 22, 2010, when Chandler entered stores where the women worked and stole their belongings.
