Seventeen-year-old Elijah Creese of Glen appeared before Chief Magistrate Sonya Young at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Creese was charged with having 20 grams of cannabis with the intent to supply. He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Young seemed visibly upset by both Creese’s charge and his appearance. “You are going to one of the best schools in SVG and the best you could do is to smoke your life away!” Young said.

Young also commented on the unkempt condition of Creese’s hair and asked whether he went to school with his hair in that condition. Creese’s hair, which was fairly long, was not combed and stood up stiff like an afro. Creese told Young that he usually combs his hair, but that he did not get a chance to since he had been held overnight by the police.

Young ordered Creese to return to court the following day with his hair trimmed. He was fined $500.(OS)
