Youngsters’ friendship goes flip-flop

Velox pleaded guilty to assaulting Dwayne Cupid of Chapmans on March 28, 2010, in Kingstown.

Senior Magistrate at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, Donald Browne, placed the youngster on a 12-month bond for his actions.

The court heard that at about 5pm, Cupid was walking in the vicinity of the P.H. Veira building when Velox accosted him and accused him of stealing his slippers. Both men engaged in an argument during which Velox took a strip of lumber and struck Cupid behind his head.

Velox in his explanation told the court that Cupid’s girlfriend was the one who told him that her boyfriend had stolen his slippers. “Is he tek my slippers. His own woman come and tell me is he who tek it and sell it,” Velox said. He further explained that Cupid came into the bedroom and asked him for some plastic bags to sell. “The next morning I looking, me ain’t see my slippers,” Velox noted. Velox said on the day of the incident, he and the defendant had a tussle over the slippers and he (Cupid) fell and bumped his head on the ground.(KW)
