Deportee gets a year for impersonation
Two days after a deportee was sent to jail for passport fraud, another deportee was dealt a similar fate.{{more}}
Omory Barker, 33, of Colonarie appeared at the Serious Offences Court on February 24, and pleaded guilty to a charge of impersonation and providing false information to an immigration officer.
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young sentenced Barker to one year behind bars for impersonation, and a further six months for providing false information.
On the day of the incident, Barker went to Immigration officer Jose Hooper at the Immigration Department and presented him with a passport application form and Birth certificate in the name of Remson Kenneth Barker, which was later discovered to be his brotherâs.
Everything went smoothly up to the point when the documents were perused by the departmentâs supervisor. The vigilant supervisor noticed that that the passport photos did not look like Omory. When questioned, Barker admitted that he was deported from England in 2008 and wanted to go back so that he could see his children.
