Culzac had been charged with wounding PC 430 Orthwell John, of Arnos Vale, and resisting arrest by the same officer. He pleaded not guilty to both charges when he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court Monday, 29 June, 2009.

The trial had been scheduled to begin on Monday, September 28, 2009, but the prosecution, headed by Sergeant Glenford Gregg, requested that the charges against Culzac be withdrawn. The case was dismissed.

Culzac, a former national cyclist, claimed that he was brutalised by police on June 23, 2009, during a search of his shop at Murray’s Village. Villagers at the scene of the incident also violently protested against Culzac’s arrest, with some reportedly pulling him away from the arresting officers.
