Accused nine on $15,000 bail

Nine men who are alleged to have had sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 were on Friday, April 17, 2009, granted bail in the sum of $15,000, at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.{{more}}

After being remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison after their first appearance in court on April 14, the nine men: Lucas Barbour, 64, Watchman; Sigbert Williams, 49, Fisherman; Prince Neverson, 42, Fisherman; Samuel Caesar, 55, Self-employed; Gary Richards, 35, mini-bus Conductor; Ricardo John, 35, mini-bus conductor; Gofrey French, 35, labourer; Envis Turkin, 28, farmer and Junior Gloster, 26, fisherman emerged from the Magistrate’s Court with huge smiles on their faces.

The news of the alleged sexual encounter grabbed headlines throughout the country last week. It is alleged that between January 1, 2008, and March 4, 2009, the men engaged in sexual activities with the young girl.

Accused Gloster is represented by attorney Grant Connell, lawyer Arthur Williams represents Barbour, while Sylvester Raymond-Cadette represents Gary Richards.

The men were ordered to report to the Barrouallie Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6am and 6pm. The matter was adjourned to May 7, 2009, at the Family Court.
