Keith Gassie, 25, and Leverius Louie, 29, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on March 27, 2009, and pleaded not guilty to having 74 pounds of cannabis in their possession at Duvalle on March 25, 2009.

Louie was also charged with damaging the left guardrail of the Coast Guard vessel valued at $10,000. He also pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Inspector Nigel Butcher objected to bail for both men on the grounds that they are potential flight risks and they arrived here illegally by boat.

A third St Lucian is also in police custody and is expected charged at a later date.

Both matters were transferred to the Serious Offences Court.
