Grenadian gets a year for illegal entry
Less than a month after Senior Magistrate Donald Browne deported 18-year-old Grenadian, Devan Bascombe, he managed to find his way back to these shores.{{more}}
On March 27, 2009, at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court, the youngster once again pleaded guilty to entering the state illegally. Senior Magistrate Donald sentenced Bascombe to one year imprisonment for his unlawful act.
In February this year, Bascombe was deported on a similar charge.
The court heard that on March 21, 2009, Bascombe arrived in Union Island by boat and failed to clear immigration upon arrival. He then journeyed to Richmond on mainland St. Vincent. Patrol officers spotted the teenager in the area and picked him up.
A seemingly irate Magistrate Browne told Bascombe that St Vincent and the Grenadines is not a joke and that the Laws of the country must be respected at all times. âYou think itâs a joke? This is a lawful country and you donât have any regard for our Laws,â Browne chided.
Bascombe will be deported after he serves his prison sentence.(KW)
