$13,000 fine for weed

Perchin Williams will have to pay over $13,000 dollars in five months if he wants to stay out of jail.{{more}}

Williams, a 31-year-old resident of Georgetown appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Monday, March 16, 2009, and was charged with two offences. Williams pleaded guilty to having in his possession 10,697 grams of cannabis with intent to supply and with the cultivation of 21 mature cannabis plants. Drug Squad officers found Williams with the drugs and plants on the March 15, 2009.

While handing down the fine, Chief Magistrate Sonya Young remarked on the seriousness of his offence. “It is a considerable amount of marijuana so I’m going to fine you hard,” she said. Williams was ordered to pay $12,500 for his drug possession charge in 2 months or spend fifteen months in jail. For the cultivation of mature cannabis plants Williams was ordered to pay $600 or spend 3 months in jail.
