On Monday, January 19th, Chief Magistrate Sonya Young informed Iton that he will appear before a jury and a judge to answer the charge brought against him concerning the death of 18-month-old Jayden Commissiong of Villa who died on August 1st, 2008.

Despite an argument by Iton’s counsel Ronald Marks that the infant’s death would have been better dealt with in the form of an inquest, or that his client should have been charged on a lesser count of manslaughter, the Chief Magistrate agreed with the prosecution that the 23-year-old laborer should say what happened to a judge and a jury.

Iton was arrested on August 5th, 2008, following a post mortem performed on Commissiong, which revealed he died from internal injuries. (JJ)
