Over 60 cases for Criminal Assizes
Over 60 cases, including 15 murder matters, are down for hearing at the January Criminal Assizes, which began on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at the High Court in Kingstown.{{more}}
Some of the cases called for hearing included: Patrick Lovelace who is charged with the brutal 2002 murder of Sion Hill resident, 12-year-old Lokeisha Nanton. After a 2005 conviction for the murder, the Court of Appeal ordered a retrial in 2006. The case of Daniel âCompayâ Trimmingham will also be up for hearing. Trimmingham is charged with the murder of Phillip Antoine, of Riley, on May 1st, 2002.
Recently convicted murderers, Webster Woodley and Grenadian national Sheldon Bain, are also up for the murder of Livingston Primus of Sion Hill in 2004.
Primusâ bullet riddled body was found around 3am at the Sion Hill intersection. Bain, on the other hand, has another charge of murder on his hands. He was charged with the double murders of Rose Claire Dupont Williams and Jeffrey âLancyâ Williams, of Redemption Sharpes. Both were gunned down mafia style at their home. Woodley and Bain were convicted last December for the murder of taxi operator Peter Joseph on November 30, 2004, at Cane Hall. They are currently awaiting sentencing.
Police Constable Ericsson Harris will have his matter re-tried, after a jury could not decide his fate last year. Harris is charged with the double murders of Vonley Llewellyn, of New Montrose, and Jennine Gil,l of Villa Fountain road, on December 15, 2005. The coupleâs charred bodies were found lying face down in a bed in a Villa-Fountain two bedroom burnt-out house.
During the arraignments, five persons charged with offences ranging from handling stolen goods, to theft, robbery, forgery and aggravated burglary, pleaded guilty when their matters were called. The sentences for the guilty pleas were adjourned to next Monday, January 19, 2009.
