Ashawn Haynes was not required to plea at the Serious Offences Court to the indictable charges that were read to him by Chief Magistrate Sonya Young. Haynes was charged with entering the dwelling house of Sanardie Richardson armed with a gun on December 24, 2008. He was also charged with having in his possession one magnum 357 revolver, with serial number 573, and for discharging that said firearm at Sanardie Richardson in the Collins area.

Prosecutor Inspector Nigel Butcher objected to Haynes’ bail on the grounds that police are continuing their investigations into the matter and that if bail was granted, Haynes would interfere with their investigations. Butcher added that the gun might have been also used to commit other offences. The ace prosecutor told the court that several shells were recovered from the weapon and that analysis is to be carried out. The prosecutor alluded to the fact that the matter is a very serious one, and because of the sentence likely to go with it once convicted, the defendant may abscond.
