Lucians fined for weed

St Lucian national Natieus Baptiste, who pleaded guilty to possession of 39,044 grams of cannabis last week at the Serious Offences Court, was fined $60,000 forthwith or he will spend three years in jail.{{more}}

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young handed down the sentence on Monday at the sitting of the Serious Offences Court.

Baptiste was charged jointly with fellow countrymen Albertius Fitz Plummer, and Keidan Simon. They pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Plummer, who pleaded guilty to possession of 445 grams of cannabis was fined $900 forthwith or six months in prison.

A deportation order was made on Simon. (KW)
