Llewellyn’s call to the Bar was heard on Tuesday, October 21, at the High Court, before Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle, and witnessed by family members and close friends.

Veteran Lawyer Arthur Williams made the application for Llewellyn’s call, while Director of Public Prosecutions Colin Williams seconded the application.

Llewellyn, 24, attended the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus from 2003-2006 where she obtained her Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) with second-class honours. The young attorney then went on to the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago from 2006-2008 where she received her Legal Education Certificate and also made the Principal’s Roll of Honour.

In her first address as a Barrister, Llewellyn said that it took a lot of sacrifice and hard work to get to where she is today. Quoting her favourite scripture passage: Psalms 37:4, Llewellyn said that that scripture served as a cornerstone of her journey and gave her the willpower to press on.

The former Girls’ High School and Community College student also thanked her parents Annette and Francis Llewellyn for their constant support throughout her life. “You constantly went beyond the call of your duties as parents and you selflessly made my education your number one priority, and I am truly grateful,” she stated. The floodgates of tears quickly opened as Llewellyn dedicated her call to the Bar to her late grandfather whom she stated played a pivotal role in her success.

Llewellyn noted that she plans to be deeply involved not only in law, but in her community of Paul’s Avenue. “I am of the opinion that it should not always be what the world can do for us, but on the contrary, what can we do for the world,” she added.

Describing her as an honest and hardworking individual, Arthur Williams said that he has all confidence that Llewellyn is fit and proper to take on the task that lies ahead of her.

Justice Bruce-Lyle added that if the standard of the legal profession is to be raised, it is the young barristers who have to take on the mantle. He warned the young Lawyer that the road ahead will not be easy but urged her to stay focused on her career.

Llewellyn will be attached to the chambers of Williams and Williams.(KW)
