Father fined for weed

Kenworth Lockhart’s love for his four-year-old child runs deep, so deep that he ended up on the wrong side of the law.

Lockhart, 41, a farmer, of Rose Hall, pleaded guilty on Tuesday at the Serious Offences Court to having 526 grams of cannabis with intent to supply.{{more}}

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young fined him $900 and ordered that $500 be paid forthwith and the remainder in one month or six months in jail.

Around 11:35 a.m. on June 21, PC 317 John was in the vicinity of the old Intermediate High School building and saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner.

A search was conducted on a black plastic bag that Lockhart was carrying and a brown taped package was found containing the controlled substance.

The remorseful Lockhart pleaded with Magistrate Young to give him a chance. “Ah begging yuh fo leniency please. Ah was only trying to sell it to buy school stuff for me four-year-old child,” he said.
