Youth fears for life

As a measure of precaution from a gang, 16-year-old Gareth Baker equipped himself with a knife on Sunday, June 1st, before venturing to Kingstown.{{more}}

The Chauncey resident pleaded guilty on Monday, June 2nd, at the Serious Offences Court to having an offensive weapon in his possession on June 1, 2008, and was bonded to keep the peace for two years in the sum of $2000 or go to prison for two months. He was also ordered to report to the Questelles Police Station on Saturdays.

The slim lad, who could hardly be heard by his low tone of voice, told Chief Magistrate Sonya Young that he armed himself with the knife to protect himself from a gang called “Murderville”, from Campden Park.

Baker was nabbed by police during stop and search operation in the Gibson Corner area around 10:45pm. The officers searched him and the knife was found in the waist of his pants.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Nigel Butcher told the young boy to make a report to the police anytime anyone from the gang interferes with him.
