Allen, 23, was arrested and charged on February 13, 2008 for possessing 346 grams of cocaine at the E.T Joshua Airport. She was also charged with attempting to export the illegal substance. Allen pleaded guilty to both charges last Thursday at the Serious Offences Court when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Sonya Young.

She was fined $3000 forthwith or one year behind bars for the possession charge. For the exportation charge, she was sentenced to one year in prison.

Information reaching SEARCHLIGHT stated that the defendant was at the Airport preparing to go back to Canada. It was said that Allen checked in her luggage and cleared immigration. While waiting in the departure lounge, PC 168 Chambers, who was suspicious of the person who dropped her to the airport, went to Allen and questioned her. A search was carried out on her suitcase, of which she denied ownership. A further search conducted on the suitcase found a transparent plastic bag in the handle containing the cocaine. Allen was cautioned and she said that she did not know how the drugs got there.

Osbert Thomas, 36, a mechanic of La Croix was also charged with Allen. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. His matter is still pending. (KW)
