Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle slapped Michael Brown, 24, of Campden Park, with a 10-year custodial sentence, after he pleaded guilty to wounding Jessica Samuel with intent at the High Court.

On October 22, 2006 at about 2am, Samuel and some friends were returning from “Passa Passa” and were at the Aunt Jobe’s Supermarket area awaiting a bus when the incident took place.

The defendant came to where the women were and started asking them for sex. Brown attempted to touch Samuel who pushed him away, causing him to fall to the ground.

Brown then ran up to Samuel, pulled a pair of scissors from in his pocket and stabbed her in the left eye.

Brown tried to run but was caught by some men and taken to the Central Police Station.

Presiding Judge Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle said that Brown was a wicked individual for committing such an offence. “If you wanted to speak to the woman you should have approached her in a civil manner. Look at you, you are not even in any position to pay compensation,” said the Judge.

Arthur Williams represented Brown. PC 740 Biorn Duncan was the investigating officer in the matter.
