Prison roll now stands at 383

At the close of the September Criminal Assizes on Wednesday, the population at Her Majesty’s Prison stood at 383.

Among that figure, there are 300 imprisoned males, 75 males on remand and eight incarcerated females.{{more}}

The number of males being sentenced by the High Court stands at 123 and 177 by the Magisterial Court. Females sentenced by the Supreme Court stand at five, while those sentenced at the magisterial court are three.

There are also 23 males awaiting trial and 45 awaiting Preliminary Investigations. Seven males are awaiting sentencing and 14 male inmates are awaiting their murder trials. There are also 13 males awaiting Preliminary Investigations into murder charges.

At present there is a total of eight non-nationals serving sentences, including three Trinidadians, three Grenadians, one Antiguan and a Guyanese. (KW)
