Mother, daughter on cocaine charge

Local police removed over half million dollars worth of cocaine from the streets of St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday, December 9, 2007.{{more}}

Two women have been charged in connection with the haul and are now out on $30,000 bail each.

Wendellyn Browne, 41, and daughter Cathy-Ann Morgan, 20, of Cane Hall were taken before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. They pleaded not guilty to having in their possession 7,445 grams of cocaine with intent to supply. They were remanded in custody until Wednesday for a review of their bail.

On Wednesday, Prosecutor Station Sergeant Nigel Butcher stated that if the court was minded to grant bail that it should be cash bail.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that a search warrant was carried out at the defendants’ home at Cane Hall where the cocaine was found in a liquid substance in four plastic bottles marked “Sorrel Syrup.”

Senior Magistrate Donald Browne ordered both women to report to the Central Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. They were also ordered to surrender their travel documents.

The matter was adjourned to March 24, 2008.
