Browne is new head of Bar Association
Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyleâs recent call for barristers to lift the bar will be staunchly supported by newly elected President of the Bar Association Kay Bacchus-Browne.{{more}} Fresh from elections last Friday at the High Court, the former Vice President will serve for the next two years. She beat Ada Johnson in a closely contested poll, 19 votes to 18.
Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT on Tuesday, the outspoken lawyer said she realizes there is a lot of room for improvement, and hopes to improve the administration of justice in St Vincent and the Grenadines. âI am hoping in my tenure we can make this move to improve and go beyond,â Bacchus-Browne stated.
Duane Daniel (right) was elected Vice President. Samantha Robertson(left below) and Roxanne Knights were returned as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
Three new committee members were elected: Senator Ronald Marks, Vynette Frederick and under five years representative, Saboto Caesar.
Former President Nicole Sylvester will serve as Immediate Past President.
Bacchus-Browne said the Bar has accomplished great things in the past years and looks forward to continuing the great works. She said she also hopes to reach out to major stakeholders including members of the Bar, the Magistracy, the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Police to get their cooperation for the betterment of the administration of justice.
Bacchus-Browne said that a social function for December is also in the works to cap off this yearâs law term.(KW)
