The young man appeared before Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman on Monday at the Serious Offences Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court heard that Butler was patrolling the hotel compound when he noticed the manager’s office door open. He went in and opened a drawer containing the money and stole it.

Butler said he shared his newly found wealth with his girlfriend and his ex girlfriend. He continued his spree by purchasing a television set, stereo, baby items and had money left to spend at Philo’s Disco and on five sheets of plywood.

None of the money was recovered.
