Grenadian charged $10,000 for possession of cannabis

With only three days to go before a promised “nice time” at the popular fete “Jiggy Jiggy”, Grenadian, Eddison McMillan was fined $10,000 by the Serious Offences Court on Monday, after pleading guilty to having 3859 (8.5 pounds) grams of cannabis in his possession on March 6, 2007.

He was charged along with John Kalliste, 34, also of Grenada, who pleaded not guilty and was dismissed. Failure to come up with the $10,000, McMillan would spend nine months in jail.{{more}}

McMillan said that he was ‘set up’ and that he really came here on a boat ride. He said he was staying in Pole Yard, Arnos Vale with his friend who goes by the name of ‘Mef’, who promised that while he is here in St Vincent that they would have a nice time and go partying the following Saturday.

Acting on certain information, members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) went to Pole Yard, Arnos Vale at about 6:50 p.m. The court heard that the defendant was met in a small wooden house, where upon, he and the house were searched by police officers.

During the search, a black plastic bag was found in his pocket. When cautioned about the packages, McMillan denied ownership of the drugs. “Is weed day in ah dem day, buh me na know who put dem day.”

To add to his drug charge, McMillan entered the country illegally and told Magistrate Churaman that his passport had expired. For this, an order was made that he be deported.
