Gun cleaner turns thief

Just over a month ago after being charged with having one rock of cocaine in his possession and being “planned” with a cutlass after offering to pay another man $50 to let him “clean his gun” (perform oral sex), Allan Williams appeared at the Serious Offences Court on a charge of theft.

Williams pled guilty to entering the house of Hoskin Williams and stealing a quantity of items including groceries, clothing, toothpaste, deodorant and a flashlight amounting to $370.65. For his actions, Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman sentenced him to 15 months imprisonment.{{more}}

On February 26, 2007 at about 10 a.m. Williams secured his house and went to work. When he returned to work later that night he discovered his belongings missing.

Investigations by the police lead to Williams’s arrest. Most of the items were recovered except for the groceries.

The defendant told the court that he usually works with Hoskins Williams as a landscaper and that he went to the house the morning in search of him because he was hungry. “When I reach de door, it ain’t been lock and I go in and tek de groceries with the other tings dem,” recalled Williams. He said it was after taking the items that he came to the realisation that what he had done was wrong. “After I dun tek de ting dem I suspect I been wrong,” he said.

Williams asked Magistrate Churaman to place him on a bond but was denied and he was sentenced to prison.
