Teenagers arrested for stealing chain

One Secondary School student is out on bail while another man was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons on Monday at the Serious Offences Court after they were charged for robbing Akeido Endeavour of a 14kt gold chain valued at $2000 on January 23.

Javon Samuel, 17, of Fairburn Pasture was granted bail in the sum of $3000 while Austin McDowall, 19, labourer of Richmond Hill was remanded in custody for the offence.{{more}}

At about 4.30 p.m. Endeavour was walking towards the Chinese restaurant located next to Tony’s Pizza when he encountered Samuel and McDowall. Samuel held on to his chain and started pulling it. Samuel demanded that Endeavour let go of the chain but he refused to do so.

Samuel then drew a knife and he struck Endeavour with the handle in his head. After receiving the blow, Endeavour let go of his chain and ran.

On Saturday January 27 at about 3 p.m., the complainant pointed out the defendants to the police, one of whom was wearing his chain. They were subsequently arrested and charged for the offence.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Nigel Butcher strongly opposed bail for McDowall as he had previous convictions of a similar nature and that he had just completed a prison sentence in December for burglary. Samuel was also ordered to report to the Central Police Station (CPS) on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a curfew from 4pm to 6am was imposed.

The matter was adjourned to March 12 for a Preliminary Investigation into the matter.
