Sock thief arrested

At some point in one’s lifetime one may have heard people saying, “if you do not have, do without!”

It seems as if this piece of advice did not fly Kent Johnson’s way. He has been placed on a bond for one year for going into Royal Bazaar and stealing one pair of socks valued at $7.95.{{more}}

The Georgetown labourer pled guilty to the charge when he appeared at the Serious Offences Court. On January 30 at about 10 a.m. the Security Guard at the store noticed the defendant and kept him under close surveillance while he was in the store. Johnson is said to have picked up a pair of socks and placed it in his pocket and walked past the cashier. Before he could get further, the guard held on to him and retrieved the socks. He was then taken to Central Police Station where he was arrested and charged.

In his explanation to the court, Johnson said that he came into town early that morning to collect some money from someone but that never materialised. He further stated that he had a bruised foot and that he needed the socks badly, “Yo honor me bin well war de socks cause me geh ah bruise pan me foot.”

Failure to comply with the bond he would have to pay $500 forthwith or go to jail for three months.
