Mason charged $1300 for possession of cannabis

Pat “Pato” Williams, 34, mason of Diamond has until February 30 to pay a fine of $1300 if he wants to stay out of prison. Failure to pay this fine would result in his going to jail for four months.

Williams appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to having 617 grams (1.3 pounds) of cannabis in his possession at Orange Hill on January 27.

The court heard that at about 7 a.m. PC 723 Dallaway was on mobile duty with the Narcotics squad in the Orange Hill area when motor vehicle HP 124 was seen travelling in the opposite direction towards Kingstown.{{more}}

Officers signaled the vehicle to stop, to which the driver complied.

The defendant was seen sitting behind the driver with a white nylon sack next to him. He was questioned in relation to the sack and admitted it was his. It was searched and a black plastic bag with brown scotch tape was found. When cautioned by the officers, Williams replied, “Officer is ah small smoke a man give me to bring down.”
