Chapmans man on gun, ammunition charges
Prosecutor at the Serious Offences Court, Station Sergeant Nigel Butcher was caught in a state of amazement when on Tuesday he witnessed one man being charged for a number of gun and ammunition charges at the same time.
Andy Craigg a 32 year-old farmer of Chapmans was remanded to Her Majestyâs Prison after being charged on January 18 for having in his possession: a nine millimeter pistol, five rounds of nine millimeter ammunition, one shot gun, 10 rounds of shot gun cartridges and two rounds of .38 ammunition.{{more}}
When he appeared before Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Georgetown Police and Rapid Response Unit (RRU) went on a joint operation after receiving certain information about Craigg.
On their way to Chapmans the defendant was seen walking along the public road in the opposite direction. It was heard that Craigg had a firearm in his hand and was pointing it at the police when the officers took action and shot him in his left arm. The defendant dropped the weapon and began running but was subsequently caught.
He is scheduled to reappear in court on February 8 for the Preliminary Inquiry.
