False Vincentian passport lands Guyanese in jail
A Guyanese national is into the third day of his three-month prison sentence at her Majestyâs Prison.
Tulsie Ram Chulai appeared at the Serious Crimes Court on Tuesday and pled guilty to having a false Vincentian passport in his possession on December 1, 2006 knowing it to be false.{{more}}
Chuai left Guyana about 10 months ago for Trinidad. While in Trinidad he met someone by the name of âGlenâ who offered him a passport to travel to Jamaica and Canada.
On November 30, 2006 the defendant was given a Vincentian passport which bore the number 0054008 and an issue date of May 25, 2004. It was reported that he paid US$500 to obtain the passport.
He then left Trinidad destined for Jamaica on the 30th. On arrival in Jamaica Chuai was met by a man who took his Guyanese passport and gave him a ticket bound for Canada.
On December 1, 2006 Chuai attempted to clear immigration authorities in Jamaica but his dream trip of going to Canada was curtailed in Jamaica as he was detained and informed that his passport was false.
He was later flown to St Vincent and the Grenadines where he was taken into custody on his arrival.
