Bacchus-Browne wants full year for criminal assizes

Attorney at law, Kay Bacchus-Browne is making a strong call to have sitting of the criminal assizes all year round instead of three times a year. Bacchus-Browne said there are far too many cases being called for hearing at the High Court with only two judges presiding.

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT she said that persons suffering most are the ones languishing in prison for such long periods.

“The time has come for us to change the system and have sitting of the High Court all year around,” said Bacchus-Browne.

She added that it would be quite difficult in dealing with this month’s assizes since there are forty-two cases up for hearing.
