42 cases down for October Assizes

Tuesday October 3, marked the official start of the October Criminal Assizes at the High Court in capital Kingstown and a total of forty-two cases are up for hearing.

Grenadian, Justice Lyle St. Paul will be the presiding judge over the assizes. Some of the cases being called are Shorn George and Earlando Lampkin who are charged for murder. The two men were found guilty earlier this year for the murder of Police Constable Elson ‘Raca’ Richardson on November 14, 2004. The matter is set for sentencing today.{{more}}

Two other matters for sentencing are Ken Charles and Sylvester ‘Fowl Pants’ Lewis. Charles was charged for murder and wounding with intent and Lewis was convicted of murdering German tourist, Heike Ruhl.

Another case of interest involving Grenadian, Sheldon Bain, Webster Woodley and Michael ‘Syndicate’ Samuel who were charged for the murder of Taxi operator Peter ‘Kazaman’ Joseph is set for later in the assizes.

Four forfeiture hearings are also at the forefront, including Michael Smart for theft, Oxford Earl Chance for Controlled drugs, Charles Constance and Ricardo Dopwell both charged with similar offence of having possession of things suspected of being unlawfully obtained.
