Five Grenadians facing cocaine, ganja charges

Five Grenadians are on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison facing cocaine and marijuana charges while a Vincentian has been released on bail. {{more}}

Benedict McLawerence, 52, Kenroy McLawerence, 26, Hubert McLawerence, 19, Rex Cummings, 29, Nathaniel John, 19 were jointly charged with lone Vincentian, Everton Adams, a labourer of Belair for having in their possession, 10,896 grams (24 lbs) of cocaine and 1,016 grams (2.2 lbs) of cannabis. The men appeared on Wednesday September 13 at the Serious Crimes Court and all pled guilty to the charges.

On Sunday September 10, members of the Narcotics Unit and Coastguard were on a joint operation in the Canouan area monitoring the vessel in which the accused where travelling. When the boat docked in Canouan from Grenada, the police requested to search the vessel and the drugs were found.

Everton Adams was granted $50,000 bail with two sureties. The matter was adjourned until December 14 when a Preliminary Investigation will be started. Attorney Arthur Williams appeared on behalf of the six accused.
