Their troubles stemmed from an incident at Richardson Service Station in Arnos Vale, October 10, 2004. The men are accused of taking EC$1,288, US$80, and $1,443 in phone cards.

Phillips is one of several prisoners who escaped from neighbouring island Grenada in the wake of the destruction wrought by Hurricane Ivan. His compatriot Elvon Barry is also one of the escapees.

The other accused is from the South Leeward district of Lower Questelles. Acting Director of Public Prosecution Colin Williams assured the court that a jury would be enlisted for the trial. Phillips outlined plans to file a constitutional motion.

Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle adjourned the matter till later in the Assizes and remanded the three men in custody.
