‘I smoke it for comfort’

When the dreadlocked man appeared before Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman on Monday he boldly pleaded guilty to the charge.{{more}}

On Friday February 10 at approximately 5: 20 a.m. a search was conducted at the defendant’s home. During the search the defendant threw a black plastic bag out of the window. The bag was retrieved and opened in front of Quashie who admitted on the spot that the drugs indeed belonged to him.

“Where did you get the cannabis,” asked Magistrate Churaman. Quashie replied by saying, “I get it from a friend who ah does help.” The Magistrate also asked, “Why do you smoke?” and he said, “I smoke it for my comfort.”

He was ordered to pay the fine forthwith or spend the next 28 days in jail.
