Marksman: My dentures were knocked out

Lawrence Greaves, a labourer of Richmond Hill, narrowly escaped a jail sentence for unlawfully and maliciously wounding. He was however, fined $1500 by Senior Magistrate, Carl Joseph last Monday when he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court in Kingstown.

Lawrence was also charged with Mith Browne of the same address for the same offence. {{more}}

They were charged on June 2 at approximately 12:10 p.m. at Richmond Hill for injuring Ken Marksman.

Marksman told the court, he was walking home when he saw two men sitting on a wall under a streetlight. They uttered some words to him and a fight later ensued. He claimed he was knocked to the ground, slapped and kicked about. “My dentures were knocked out,” said Marksman. As a result of the fight he sustained injuries to his eye, nose and ear.

In Greaves’ defence, he claimed he was sitting on a wall with Mith Browne when he saw the defendant coming up the road and looking intoxicated.

He claimed Marksman dropped his bag in front of him and started making a lot of noise. “I gave him his bag and push him up the road and tell him go home cause I know him long time” said Greaves. He also said that Marksman dropped his bag and he went to pick it up for him and when he turned, he saw Marksman in a gutter with his friend Mith Browne standing over him, with a bottle in his hand.

Magistrate Joseph dismissed the charge against Mith Browne, due to lack of evidence. However, he gave Lawrence until November 4th to pay the fine.
