Masked man creates havoc in Mesopotamia

A robbery spree here has police worried after reports of a masked gunman on the loose in the Mesopotamia Valley.

The spate of robberies reportedly occurred in Ginger Village, and near Belmont last week Friday night, all within the space of 45 minutes. {{more}}

Police say that at about 9:15 p.m. Kingsley John, a 25-year-old of Belmont was robbed of items valuing EC$1, 375. Some 15 minutes later, Karl Alexander of Ginger Village was deprived of $10 in coins and one Cable & Wireless cellular phone in his home village.

The masked marauder was on the go again soon after and at about 9:45 p.m. Andy Tash, also of the same address was, according to police, relieved of his wallet containing an unknown sum of money.

During the same 45-minute period when the robberies reportedly took place, Cosmore Harry, a 45-year-old plumber, also of Ginger Village received a gun shot wound to his left leg. Harry attempted to defend himself after refusing to comply with the robber’s request that he hand over his money.

Robbery victim Kingsley John told SEARCHLIGHT that had he resisted the gunman he might have suffered a similar fate to Harry’s.

“I was by the bus stop about nine o’clock. Soon as I going up to where I live, a guy said freeze, if yuh move yuh f****** dead’. He said ‘give me everything’. He took my Nike shoe, my chain and $400-plus in my wallet and my belt,” said John.

“He could have killed me. I want him to know that I know him,” said John, stating that he believes the robber lives at Evesham.

“He even had the heart to tell me he know me. An’ he does see me liming at Belmont everyday,” John related.

John is however grateful that he was not injured.
