Cougar put in cage for eight months
Clayton âCougarâ Caine of Glen last Tuesday received an eight month sentence for burglary when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman at the Serious Crimes Offence court.
Caine, 25 years old and unemployed, was charged for entering a shop owned by Jennifer Daniel of the same address on the 28 January about 9:30 p.m. {{more}}
During her testimony, Daniel said she went down the road and locked her house and shop. While down the road, she received a phone call informing her that someone had broken into her shop and was still there. She ran back to her house and saw Caine in the shop and said, âCougar, ah way yo go and break me shop fa.â The defendant then fled the scene.
Witness, Alford Joseph told the court he was going to buy something at the shop when he heard a noise and called Daniel immediately. He said he stood by a nearby house to see who the person was but when he heard Danielâs voice he ran. He also added that Caine was dressed in long jeans with one foot folded and was shirtless at the time.
The police were immediately summoned to the scene and discovered that $60 was missing from her phone card monies while a bottle of Ginger wine was gone. The next day the police found Caine at Calliaqua where he was arrested and charged.
In Caineâs defence to the court, he claimed he wasnât in Glen at the time, but at Campden Park. He also added that it must have been a case of mistaken identity, that Daniel and Joseph saw the wrong person.
