Good citizen catches thief

The good deed of a public-spirited citizen has been given credit by an officer of the Royal SVG Police Force.

The Kingstown Magistrate’s Court was told that on May 14, 2005, Susan Lewis was walking from the Kingstown Bus Terminal with a bag containing cash of $327.43. She also had in her hands a bottle of mustard, costing $13 and some codfish valued at $8.25, when Preston Butcher the defendant, ran past her and grabbed her bag from around her shoulder. {{more}}

It took the help of an unidentified male bystander who chased and held the accused.

Magistrate Joseph returned a verdit of guilty and sentenced the accused to six months for stealing and three months for damaging the goods. Both sentences are to run concurrently.
