Burglar caught in the act
Good instinct and the quick action of a detective sergeant foiled a daylight burglary at a hotelierâs home at Mc Kieâs Hill and resulted in the imprisonment of the burglar. {{more}}
Information received indicated that at about 2.00 p.m. last Friday Detective Sergeant Trevor Bailey was driving his motor car along the Mc Kieâs Hill public road when he heard a sound coming from a nearby house. He stopped and saw Anthony Douglas of Rockies trying to break into the house of Royâs Inn proprietor, Leroy Lewis.
The report also said that as Douglas fled the scene, Sgt. Bailey pursued him and fired a warning shot.
Douglas was apprehended and taken to the Central Police Station where he was charged for attempted burglary.
Police also said when Douglasâ home was searched last Friday they found EC$5,700.00, US$623.00, 110 Pounds, 20 Euros, Can.$5.00 and Bds.4,281.00 in cash. They also seized a quantity of colognes, jewelry, clothing, compact discs, and other items believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
When Douglas was taken before the Kingstown Magistrate Court Monday, he pleaded guilty to last Fridayâs burglary attempt and was sentenced to nine months.
Police Wednesday afternoon said Douglas was charged for a burglary which occurred previously at Kingstown Park and was expected to appear in court again yesterday.
Police also said he was assisting them in their investigations into other reports of burglary.
