Bajan, Vincies on drug charge

Two Vincentians and a Barbadian man were arrested earlier this week and charged with drug possession. {{more}}

Harvey Samuel, 34, of Sion Hill, Marcus Fairbain, 40, of Lowmans Hill and Maurice Dabriel, 25, of Barbados were arrested at Layou on Sunday when a patrol unit from the Narcotics Division discovered 31 pounds of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

Information received indicates that the law officers were on mobile patrol about the Leeward area when they met a vehicle with its bonnet open at Layou. They offered to assist the men with their vehicle which appeared to be experiencing engine problem. While offering assistance, they became suspicious and searched the vehicle to find the marijuana in the trunk.

The three men appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the joint charge of possessing 31 pounds of cannabis with intent to supply.

Dabriel was remanded in custody on the grounds that he was a non-national and it was feared that if granted bail he would abscond.

Samuel and Fairbain were each granted bail of $10,000 with one surety. They were ordered to report to police every Friday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. until the matter is disposed of.

The three accused are scheduled to reappear in court for trial on March 8, this year.
