James cracks murder case

A seasoned detective from the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has been commended for his investigative skills in the Lokeisha Nanton murder investigations.

Detective Sergeant Sydney James of the Major Crime Unit was highly praised by acting Director of Public Prosecutions Colin Williams, during last Thursday’s hearing of the murder trial.{{more}}

The acting DPP said it was Sergeant James’ painstaking, comprehensive and thorough investigations that led to the arrest of Patrick Lovelace for Lokeisha Nanton’s murder.

“That is the kind of investigator on whom the Crown relied. That is the kind of man who suffered an unwarranted attack and stood up like a man and rejected it,” the DPP stated.

DPP Williams was at the time making his summation as the trial neared its close. He further said that defence lawyer Bayliss Fredrick tried to catch detective sergeant James off-guard during cross-examination, but the attempt was all to no avail.

“You ain’t going to catch a man who did his work dispassionately, thoroughly and competently,” Williams said. He added that Sergeant James was superbly, supremely professional in his investigations and had passed his test with flying colours.

Sergeant James was also praised by trial judge Justice Louise Blenman on Monday who said that Sergeant James struck her as a professional detective who had no self-serving interest in the investigations. Justice Blenman was at the time making her summation in the well-publicized Lokeisha Nanton murder trial.

Detective Sergeant Sydney James has been serving the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force for over 20 years and has 18 years’ experience as a detective.
