Refugee camp in Paul’s Avenue?

A police prosecutor has said that there is a camp at Paul’s Avenue where robbers hide out to resuscitate themselves.

“There is a refugee camp in Paul’s Avenue where these guys go and sleep when they are tired, and then they leave,” Sergeant Adolphus Delpesche stated Monday.{{more}}

Sergeant Delpesche made the charge as he objected to bail for 27-year-old Roland Jack who is on remand for charges of robbery and theft.

Jack is accused of robbing Arnesto Turtin of Rockies of $120 in cash, a cellular phone and other items, and stealing a gold chain valued $2,000 from Osbert Williams of Lauders.

The crimes were allegedly committed in capital Kingstown during a political rally on November 3, this year.

At Monday’s court appearance, Delpesche objected to Jack’s bail on the grounds that he was involved in acts of dishonesty and it was feared that if released during the Christmas season he would continue his criminal activities. He also said Jack claimed he lived at Paul’s Avenue but investigations revealed he had no fixed place of abode.

Jack was further remanded until December 20.

It was not the first time that Paul’s Avenue had been branded as a haven for robbers. Earlier this year, another police prosecutor, Inspector Ekron, had expressed concern over the amount of robberies committed at Paul’s Avenue particularly by someone who did not originate from the area. Ekron said that residents there were very fearful of the trend.
