Jack slapped with theft charge

Twenty-seven-year old Roland Jack of Kingstown was on Monday remanded in custody on charges of theft and robbery.

Jack is accused of stealing a gold chain valued $2,000 from Osbert Williams of Lauders and robbing Arnesto Turtin of Rockies of $120 in cash, a cellular phone and other items. {{more}}

The crimes were allegedly committed in capital Kingstown during an NDP political protest rally last week Wednes-day night.

According to information received, shortly after 8 p.m. on November 3, Jack approached Williams at Bedford Street and asked for $2. Soon after, it is claimed, he grabbed Williams’ chain and made his escape through the crowd.

Police said that almost three hours later, Jackson, armed with a broken bottle, accosted Turtin and a female in an alleyway on Grenville Street where he robbed Turtin and fled the scene.

When Jack appeared before the Serious Offences Court Monday, police prosecutor, Sergeant Adolphus Delpesche, objected to bail on the grounds that Jack had previous convictions for dishonesty and it was feared he might continue his nefarious activities. He noted that we were in the tourist season with the Christmas season approaching.

Jack is scheduled to return to court on December 9 for trial on the theft charge and possible start of preliminary inquiries into the robbery charge.
