Woman, 73, acquitted of sex charge

A seventy-three year old woman and a 49-year-old man of Coulls Hill have been acquitted of an unlawful sexual intercourse charge.

Elfreda Williams and Errol Alexander were charged with the crime, allegedly committed against an 11-year-old girl on January 22, last year.{{more}}

Williams was accused of encouraging Alexander to have sexual intercourse with her 11-year-old granddaughter.

A nine-member jury panel, comprising five females and four males, failed to arrive at a unanimous verdict. They remained split on their decision, after three hours of deliberation.

The 73-year-old woman was represented by Arthur Williams, while Alexander was represented by Duane Daniel.

Meanwhile, a Troumaca man in his forties has been jailed for rape.

Last Friday the High Court sentenced Aword Stephens to nine years for the rape of an eight-year-old girl.

The girl was said to have been living with Stephens while her mother was in hospital.

Stephens pleaded guilty during his arraignment at the start of the October sitting of criminal assizes. His sentencing, however, was postponed.
